September 17 fundraiser and awards recognition will honor nearly a century of service and support the next century of dignified, financially accessible senior care.

MANASSAS, VA — For 99 years, Birmingham Green has stood as a promise to Northern Virginia: that no senior should be denied dignity, care, or community because of their income.
On September 17, 2026, the region’s only 100-percent financially accessible senior living community will celebrate that promise — and raise support for its second century — with Jazz on the Green, a 99th anniversary celebration and fundraiser on its 54-acre campus in Manassas.
The evening will feature live jazz from musician Tony Craddock, Jr, wine and beer, hors d’oeuvres, and cake with opening remarks by Prince William County Executive Chris Shorter.
Festivities will take place from 5-7 pm at Birmingham Green, 8605 Centreville Rd., Manassas. Proceeds benefit the Birmingham Green Foundation, which funds programs and services beyond what public reimbursements cover.
More than a milestone, the anniversary arrives at a moment when Birmingham Green’s mission has never been more urgent. By 2030, all baby boomers will be 65 or older, and Northern Virginia’s rapid growth has left communities struggling to meet the needs of older adults with limited means. Birmingham Green — a cooperative venture of Fairfax, Prince William, Loudoun, and Fauquier counties and the City of Alexandria — remains the region’s safety net for seniors who need long-term care but cannot afford it.
“For nearly a century, Birmingham Green has helped vulnerable seniors not simply survive, but thrive — with dignity, independence, purpose, and high quality of life,” said Denise Chadwick Wright, Chief Executive Officer of Birmingham Green.
Founded in 1927 as the District Home, Birmingham Green today serves approximately 300 residents across the 180-bed nursing home and Northern Virginia Health Center, the historic District Home Assisted Living, and Willow Oaks Assisted Living — the only assisted living community in Northern Virginia to dedicate all of its units to Virginia’s Auxiliary Grant program. As it approaches its centennial in 2027, the organization is investing in the future of senior care, from workforce development — including its free CNA training program — to person-centered, community-based models of long-term care.
Sponsorship opportunities for Jazz on the Green are available at levels ranging from $500 to $10,000. Businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring may contact Martina Jackson Green, Birmingham Green Chief Advancement Officer, at MJacksonGreen@birminghamgreen.org.
